| Guidelines 1851 of the
National Fire Protection Association deal with the standard
on selection, care, and maintenance of structural
firefighting protective ensembles. To remain compliant with
these guidelines you should follow the following
requirements:
• advanced inspection at least
every 12 months
• advanced cleaning at least every
6 months
• specialized cleaning whenever
ensemble becomes contaminate
• repairs by trained professionals
• keep
proper documentation of all of the above

Proper Documentation
As per NFPA 1851 (2.3.2) at least the
following records shall be kept for each ensemble element:
• person to whom the element is
issued
• date and condition when issued
• manufacturer identification
number
• month and year of manufacturer
• dates of and findings of advanced
inspections
• dates of advanced cleaning or
decontamination
• reason for advanced cleaning or
contamination
• dates, description and performer
of repairs
• date of retirement
• date and method of disposal |
